AMDGPU[1] is the open source graphics driver for AMD Radeon graphics cards since the Graphics Core Next[2] family.

Selecting the right driver

Depending on the card you have, find the right driver in Xorg#AMD[3]. This driver supports Southern Islands (SI)[4] cards and later. AMD has no plans to support pre-GCN GPUs. Owners of unsupported GPUs may use the open source ATI[5] driver.

Installation

Install[6] the mesa[7] package, which provides the DRI driver for 3D acceleration.

Support for accelerated video decoding[8] is provided by libva-mesa-driver[9] and lib32-libva-mesa-driver[10] for VA-API and mesa-vdpau[11] and lib32-mesa-vdpau[12] packages for VDPAU.

Experimental

It may be worthwhile for some users to use the upstream experimental build of mesa.

Install the mesa-git[13]AUR package, which provides the DRI driver for 3D acceleration.
